Chocolate Chip Cookies are perfectly rated.
They're arguably most people's favorite cookie, and for good reason.
Okay, this isn’t original.
Everyone and their mom (or their Siti) has their own “famous” chocolate chip cookie recipe. And guess what? They all are delicious…for the most part.
A well-balanced chocolate chip cookie is hard to come by, but if you’re looking for something that fixes any sweet craving, any chocolate chip will do.
When I say well-balanced, this is what I mean….
not too sweet.
crisp on the outside, soft in the middle.
immaculate chocolate-to-cookie ratio (at least 8-10 chocolate chips, or chunks).
depth of flavor.
I’m starting to sound like a snob, and you know what? I kinda don’t care.
When I was a kid, my Siti consistently had cookies in the freezer. I’ve mentioned this in past writings, but there’s something really delicious about a frozen cookie! Sure, it’s not as glamorous as a freshly-baked, semi-melted gooey cookie, but you can taste different notes when it’s frozen.
My great Uncle David had an amazing cookie recipe with walnuts, chocolate chips, and a lot of love. That was the recipe my Siti had in her freezer at all times for visitors to have with a cup of coffee, a post-dinner dessert, or to eat while watching Jeopardy.
My Chocolate Chip Side Hustles…
Chocolate chip cookies have played a large role in my life (that sounds so stupid, but hear me out). In high school during the semester, I never had time to take on an actual part-time job. One thing I knew I could do well though was bake! So, I’d sell baked goods in between classes to make extra cash.
This is a full story for another writing, but chocolate chip cookies were a popular one!
From that experience, one of my friend’s family businesses asked me to make cookies for their office waiting room for guests to enjoy. I’d make three-four dozen of whatever cookies I wanted to make every week! It was a fun job where I got to be creative, but also I loved getting to serve and help people in a way.
Right now, I bake solely for fun.
It’s a form of therapy, a form of release for me. As I’m writing this, it’s the first weekend back for the semester (and my last my semester of college, ever) and all I wanted to do was bake cookies more than anything else.
Some of my favorite/go-to recipes are Chris Morocco’s Chocolate Chip recipe (aka BA’s best), Ree Drummond’s (it’s like a fancy Nestle Tollhouse recipe), and Joanna Gaines’ Silo Cookies. They are all delicious but serve different purposes.
Want to impress a small crowd with a complex cookie? Go with Morocco’s. Need cookie dough to store in the freezer for a later date for a party? The Pioneer Woman is your best bet.
All this to say, these are subjective opinions of my personal experiences. I’m sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of amazing chocolate chip cookie recipes.
I’ll end with this, if your recipe has walnuts, you are superior. I don’t make the rules.
With love,
Cara
I must agree that frozen cookies are so delicious!
I love the ending of this post 🤣🍪
