If you look in my pantry or fridge, you will mostly find quart containers of varying sizes.
And yes, I’m aware of quart containers being….a quart
but for the sake of labeling, quart containers are of all sizes.
One of my first posts for In My Siti Era was about my love for glass jars. While I still love a good jar, I’ve found myself not wanting to sacrifice the space and breakability.
I think jars are super cute, but quart containers have been so practical for the busy season of life I’m currently in.
Here’s what I love:
I feel like a real chef.
As silly as that sounds, it’s true. While I’m not drinking water from them like on The Bear, using these containers makes my cooking feel like it’s taken up a notch (especially if I’m labeling with painter’s tape, I feel like the real deal).
Their sizing is SO easy to digest.
big ones = cups/1 quart
medium=2 cups/1 pint
small=1 cup
Which makes measuring or eye-balling easier overall, as well as meal-prepping specific amounts.
Storage is a game changer.
No more Tupperware nightmares for this girl!
Nothing, and I mean (embarrassingly) NOTHING, sends me into a spiral more than a piece of Tupperware missing a lid and vice versa. Ask my parents or former roommates, they would know….
All the lids fit every size so no more searching for the right one because they are all the right ones.
I also love that they stack into each other! This means I can have 5 big containers in the spot of 1. Again, it’s a little, silly victory, but a victory nonetheless!
The first time I saw this was in New York staying with a close friend’s family. They lived in the Upper East Side; gorgeous apartment, ZERO space.
Seeing a week’s worth of Tupperware in one spot blew my mind!
Now living in a big city and with a small-ish kitchen, I’m always looking for ways to improve and maximize storage.
Easy to attain, easy to give away.
The fact that good Tupperware is a high commodity (I’m looking at you Miss Pyrex) when most restaurants offer these bad boys is a steal. I haven’t bought Tupperware in the last 4-5 years because of this, plus keeping glass jars (old friends at this point).
My current workplace uses quart containers out of the wazoo, especially with takeaway food items. Am I stealing? Absolutely not! If I purchase food at work, boom, free container.
Funnily enough, if I bring these containers to work, they almost always get thrown away because someone will think they’re trash (zero points for reduce, reuse recycle, unfortunately).
Because they are so easy to gain, I don’t have any sentiment to give them away to others, a true win-win.
Other great qualities
very hard to break *EDIT* - not true, I broke 2 in 24 hours AFTER writing this entry….although, I’m good at breaking and spilling things.
freezable! Just be careful dethawing or you’ll most likely crack the container.
technically not microwaveable (but if you do throw it in the microwave, it’s not the end of the world) *EDIT* - DO. NOT. MICROWAVE. please and thank you,
To wrap up, I’m a fan, to an extent.
With Love,
Cara
