Happy Belated Birthday!
In true Adult ADHD fashion, I forgot my Siti's birthday was yesterday...
My Siti’s birthday is June 2nd.
Which was yesterday! The literal namesake of this little writing piece.
Today is my Aunt Donna’s birthday though, Happy Birthday Aunt Donna!
When I think back on her birthday celebrations, my mind goes blank. But, when I think about anyone else’s birthday (mine, my parents, my cousins, etc.) she was always one of the first to celebrate.
She’d be one of the first to call or visit, with a birthday note colored in with cursive you can barely read. As a kid, she notoriously would give underwear to her grandkids, iconic, if you will. In her prime, she’d be the first to offer to make a cake or something to celebrate. She loved loving and celebrating others!
I do remember her 70th birthday was a BIG surprise birthday. Very well deserved.
I was five at the time, so anything with more than 20 people was ginormous. But! I remember seeing so many strangers that loved this woman tremendously. She was very touched. Also, the cake was HUGE. Again, five.
Nowadays, I still see my family celebrate her in small ways.
We watch Jeopardy. We’ll save the word jumbles in the newspaper. Making bread for the sake of sharing. Picking up tactile hobbies (again, for sharing). I see her in how I cut cucumbers now. Or when I spend too much time in HEB. Or the clothes I wear. We celebrate her by sharing her.
Anywho! I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her encouragement in her words and her writings.
Hopefully next year, I’ll celebrate June 2nd in a very-Siti-sort-of way!
With Love,
Cara
Thanks, Cara! Love you! ❤️
