peaches peaches peaches
I know Jack Black's masterpiece of a song is irrelevant now, but it's stuck in my brain.
Peaches in the summertime always remind me of my Siti.
Growing up, produce was plentiful in her fridge, something I took for granted but now have a greater appreciation for. The biggest go-tos were grapes, cantaloupe, strawberries, and during the summer a lot of peaches.
Georgia peaches from HEB were her top choice…
actually, her only choice!
She wouldn’t grab anything else. She’d buy them a dozen at a time it seemed, usually buying too much, but enough “just in case anyone came over and wanted one!”.
I haven’t seen Georgia peaches in HEB in quite some time. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough, or maybe Georgia and Texas have some undiscussed beef, who’s to say!
When I think about peaches, I immediately think of cobbler, crumbles, and their southern cousin, the dump cake. Or, just enjoying them by themselves!
In these posts, I usually list recipes or ideas that I have tried or know are solid suggestions. I’ve decided to do the opposite. Enjoy.
A few peach recipes that scream summer that I haven’t tried…yet.
Time is of the essence! Life is short, I need to eat more peaches.
Burrata Peach Salads via TikTok
I have absolutely no right to write about this because I’ve never had burrata nor have tried these trendy salads. But I think they’re gorgeous, cool-girl salads that I hope to have the pleasure of making at some point in my life.
Burrata. Peaches. Fresh herbs. Arugula. Beautiful!
Grilled Peaches
This reminds me of the mid-2000s Food Network (another thing that reminds me of Siti); innovative and healthy-ish desserts for the summertime that involved heavy amounts of fruit.
See, I can taste this in my brain and am sure it’s absolutely delicious. Especially with some super ripe peaches and all that natural sugar caramelizing? I’m also sure the textural experience is incredible. But alas, here we are.
Peach Bellinis
In my whole 22 years on earth, I’ve never seen this on a menu anywhere, but they look so good. I mean, at its core, it’s Prosecco and peach puree, what can go wrong?
It’s like a mimosa’s cool aunt that has a beach house and a Goldendoodle with a human name, like Scott or Gracie.
That analogy was weird…but you get the picture. I want to spend an afternoon with her, I want to get brunch with her.
Side note: HEB’s Central Market does sell a Peach Bellini Kombucha that is stellar. Couldn’t tell you how proficient it is for your gut health, but man it tastes good!
Peach Chutney
I’ve never had any chutney before (as far as I know), but I think it’s such a good food word. Chutney.
Essentially, it’s a peach relish that you can use for particularly savory dishes like pork loins or grilled chicken.
Grilled Chicken with peach chutney just sounds like a sophisticated-Coastal Grandmother-in-the Hamptons-Summer dinner main course, does it not?
Okay, I think that’s enough for today. If I keep going, I’m not going to feel peachy in any sense. *queue Dad joke response here*.
Okay, now I’m done!
With love,
Cara
