Okay, not enough people know about these, and who am I to gatekeep?
A few weeks ago, my sister and I went on a late-night HEB run (one of my favorite things in life), and we both went “OOO fudge grahams!” in unison as we were down the cookie aisle.
Fudge Grahams (while technically aren’t cookies) are the best sweet treat you can find in that aisle.
Hot Take: HEB’s Hill Country Fare is the best, specifically in this category.
They’re perfect. They aren’t grandiose or authentically made in any way.
They’re crisp, not too sweet, matte chocolate coating that leaves a glossy feeling in your mouth. You can’t eat just one, they’re great on their own or with a cup of coffee.
Need I go on?
Growing up these were my FAVORITE. And like most children, there was a correct way to eat these bad boys. You had to eat the corners first like a diplomat so it makes a cross, then crush the rest in one bite.
I forgot that these existed until about six months ago. Not to get too deep, but as a partaker of 2010’s diet culture up until right before I started “In My Siti Era”, these were “off limits” due to being so manufactured and high in sugar.
I have no intention of opening up a can of worms, but moderation has become my best friend within the last two years. With moderation, I could invite foods I loved back into my life, which is when I rediscovered these beauts.
I think I cried the first time I ate these as an adult.
Nothing tastes as good as nostalgia, especially if it tastes just as good as you remember.
In short, if you’ve never tried one, I encourage you to visit your local HEB if you have the luxury. If you don’t, make a trip to Texas when you get the chance.
With Love,
Cara
