I started In My Siti Era TWO YEARS AGO.
Wild, truly wild.
I fully remember the day I sat down and started this Substack.
It was a Saturday morning my senior year of college. I was bored and had just spent some time praying and reading my Bible, soaking in a peaceful moment with God.
When all of the sudden, I had this insane urge to write and an hour later, I had my profile, first prompts, and the first submission of In My Siti Era.
It’s wild how different of a season that was in my life, as well as how different I write now! One thing that hasn’t changed is my love for cooking, for sharing a meal with others, and the way I spend time in the kitchen.
I cook with intention, my mind calm and open to experimenting, nostalgia, and overall something delicious.
Just the other night, I revisited a vegetarian chili (an oxymoron to my native state, I know) inspired by Chetna Makan’s recipe filled with warm spices, beans, and lentils.
It was a dish I found myself making a lot in college, as it was filling, cheap, and stuck to your ribs without feeling heavy.
Revisiting this dish reminded me of first writing this substack.
How eager I was to share my nerdy food thoughts and facts. How anxious I was for the future and what post-college life looked like. How curious I was to see my writing outside of my journal and onto a platform.
I still feel anxious about the future, I pray I stay curious in and outside the kitchen, I pray to find my eagerness again to share, to keep writing, and to remember my Siti well.
OKAY, ENOUGH SENITMENTS.
If you’ve read this blog, any of my blogs; I just want to say thank you.
I hope to keep writing and to find new fun things to share as life slows down again. Oh, also whenever I get the chance to fix my computer (hence the reason I drop a blog once a month nowadays).
Since it’s this page’s little birthday, I thought I’d share some highlights from my birthday last month! HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS.
Berry Chantilly Cream Cake from Whole Foods
I believe I’ve said this before, but I unfortunately am not a cake girl.
But this cake? I hate to say this cake was so soft, not too sweet, and perfectly light for a little celebration.
This ironically was also my lunch….
Makeshift Picnic at the Park
I love a good picnic!
After being so busy the last three months, all I wanted to do was sit at the park, touch grass, and eat some fun snacks (which was exactly what I did with a few of my girlfriends).
It was so sweet to catch up with so many friends, many of which I’ve made in the last year. Praise God for good friendships!
Yogurt Bowl with Bday Cinnamon Bread
This technically wasn’t on my birthday, BUT, my sweet friend Kayla made me this cinnamon swirl bread for my birthday that was DELICIOUS!!
While it would’ve been perfectly fine by itself for breakfast, I wanted something to keep me fuller longer.
Honestly, we should be adding more desserts to Greek yogurt.
Protein plus a sweet treat? Genius.
Honorable mentions:
Crumbl (thank you to my shift lead and friend Anastasia)
Lamb Shawarma from Phoenicia
Butter Croissants
Overall, a stellar food day! As God intended.
In conclusion, I’m so thankful to be here and to keep writing. That’s all for now!
With Love,
Cara
